Celebrate Women’s History Month
at the Andrew Freedman Home, 1125

Celebrate the book launch of the paperback
version of Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa’s
novel, ‘Daughters of the Stone,’ a saga
which chronicles fi ve generations of Afro-
Latinas. While there, enjoy the beautiful
exhibition of Artist-in-Residence, Fabiola
Jean-Louis.

Road, will offer the following events

The Orchid Show: Singapore through
April 28: For its 17th year, The New York
Botanical Garden’s popular annual orchid
exhibition returns with The Orchid Show:
Singapore, developed in partnership with
Singapore Botanic Gardens and Gardens
by the Bay.
Two iconic architectural elements inspired
by both sites will be featured as
part of a horticultural tribute to one of the
world’s greatest orchid cultures. Showcasing
thousands of dramatically displayed
orchids in a dazzling variety of colors,
shapes, sizes, and patterns in the Botanical
Garden’s landmark Enid A. Haupt Conservatory,
the exhibition will pay homage
to Singapore. These storied fl owers are an
integral part of the life of this vibrant “City
in a Garden” and its rich legacy of innovative
garden design and spectacular fl oral
display.
Orchid Evening, Friday, March 22 and
Saturday, March 23, 7 to 10 p.m. (Entry
times at 7, 7:30, and 8 p.m.): The 17th annual
Orchid Show is a dazzling tribute to
Singapore, the vibrant “City in a Garden”
where these storied fl owers are an integral
part of the culture and landscape. The energy
and nightlife of Singapore come to the
Bronx in Orchid Evenings. Step into one of
the world’s greenest cultures as Supertrees
come alive around you, exhilarating
with a display of lights and orchids after
dark in the Conservatory.
The Bronx Night Market’s special popup
during Orchid Evenings features a rotating
selection of Market favorites and Asianinspired
dishes. Visitors can purchase a
signature cocktail like the Singapore Sling,
beer, wine, and more from one of our seasonal
bars and experience the sights and
sounds of Singaporean nightlife with Chua
Yun Chun and her dance company as they
take turns performing urban choreography
to the sounds of DJ Eli Tyler.

Putting Down Roots: Celebrating 30
Years of Bronx Green-Up, through Sunday,
April 28: NYBG is commemorating the
30th Anniversary of its community gardening
outreach program with a photo exhibit
including 36 photographs from 15 of the
gardens and urban farms where NYBG’s
Bronx Green-Up works.
Bronx Green-Up supports more than
200 local greening groups, schools, and
community organizations in their missions
to improve their neighborhoods through
greening projects. In honor of this anniversary,
four teen photographers from
the Bronx Documentary Center’s Bronx
Junior Photo League—18-year-old Tony
Baizan-Garcia, 19-year-old Kayla Beltran,
18-year-old Mitchell Harris-Dennis, and
16-year-old Tianna Maldonado—spent the
summer visiting Bronx Green-Up community
gardens and urban farms, documenting
the activity of these organizations, from
planting, weeding, and composting to harvest
and celebration. Their dynamic photos
will be on view showcasing community
building and activism taking place all
across the borough.
Bird Walk, Saturday, March 23, 11 a.m.:
Bring your binoculars and walk the Garden
grounds with a bird expert. You’ll search for
our feathered friends and learn more about
bird-friendly habitats, passage birds, and
those that make a permanent home at the
Garden. Meet at the Refl ecting Pool at the
Leon Levy Visitor Center.

What does nature tell you? Join a facilitated
walk that will lead us in the different
ways we can listen to what nature is telling
us about itself. Create a scroll using upcycled
materials to capture the cycles, transformations
and wisdom that nature shares
in its own way. Free, and admission to the
grounds is free until noon.
Sunday, March 17: Pre-Concert Tea:
Enjoy Afternoon Tea in the Mark Twain
Room prior to today’s concert in Armor Hall.
The Café at Wave Hill pairs a classic menu
with an assortment of green, black and
herbal teas. This traditional tea service includes
the four classic elements of savory,
scones, sweets and tea. The menu, presented
by Great Performances, includes
an array of tea sandwiches, scones and
bite-sized desserts. Afternoon Tea also includes
a glass of sparkling wine. Afternoon
Tea Service is $36. Wave Hill members receive

Drop-in: Artists in the Winter Workspace
program share their studio practice with
visitors on this Drop-In Sunday. In their studios
today are Nobutaka Aozaki, Tijay Mohammed,
Emily Oliveira and Jessica Segall.

Sunday, March 17: Concert: Arthur Vint
& Associates: Arthur Vint & Associates
pays tribute to Ennio Morricone’s iconic
“Spaghetti Western” themes, honoring the
great Italian Maestro’s 90th birthday. Morricone’s
remarkable career has spanned
seven decades; he has composed over
500 scores for cinema and television and
is inarguably one of the greatest fi lm composers
of all time. Bronx-based drummer
Arthur Vint leads the jazz combo, an
8-piece band featuring an eclectic mix of
harmonica, violin and bass clarinet, accompanied
by the more traditional jazz
instruments of saxophone, guitar, piano
and bass, all led from behind the drums
by Vint. Together the band explores Morricone’s
themes by opening them up and
making them vehicles for improvisation
in their disassembled-and-reassembled
country-jazz style. Arthur Vint moved to
the New York area from his hometown of
Tucson, AZ, in 2007 to pursue a career in
music and is now as busy as any freelance
musician could hope to be, performing
over 250 gigs a year with bands such as
Postmodern Jukebox, Vince Giordano &
The Nighthawks, Zephaniah OHora, GaDaDu,,
Arthur Vint & Associates and a good
deal more. He lives in Riverdale with his
family and is a Member and frequent visitor
to Wave Hill!

Lehman Center for the Performing
Arts and Goya Foods present the return
of Grupo Niche for a dazzling concert on
Saturday, March 23, at 8 p.m. One of the
world’s most popular Salsa groups, Grupo
Niche is known for both uptempo and
vigorous dance music as well as slowerpaced
salsa romántica numbers. Grupo
Niche is currently recording their latest album
at the “Rolo’s Studio” in Guaynabo,
Puerto Rico, in the analog format for an
authentic salsa sound experience. This
new work is under the musical direction of
Maestro José Aguirre, who is overseeing
every smallest detail in keeping with the
style created by the late Maestro Jairo Varela.

The 2019 Gracias Choir Easter Cantata,
a moving and mesmerizing music
concert event performed by the awardwinning
Gracias Choir, takes the stage at
St. Helena Catholic Church, 1315 Olmstead
Avenue, on Friday, March 22 at 7:30
p.m. The concert is free and open to the
public.
Gracias Choir is an international mixed
choral group and orchestra conducted by
world-renowned conductor Maestro Boris
Abalyan. In addition to performing for audiences
and international leaders all around
the world, the Gracias Choir recently won
First Prize at the International Choir Competiton
in Makrtoberdorf, the most prestigious
competiton in the world. They are
also Grand Prize winners at the Riva del
Garda International Choral Competition in
Italy and First Prize winners at the Montreaux
Choral Festival in Switzerland. Gracias
Choir continues to garner a reputation
as one of the best choral groups in the
world
Gracias Easter Cantata is striking an
especially strong cord with people in the
New York region. The Cantata depicts the
last days, death, and resurrection of Jesus
Christ in a moving musical reenactment.
Gracias Easter Cantata features classical,
sacred, and recomposed traditional hymns
complete with full orchestra accompaniment.
