There’s something incredibly satisfying about starting a new
semester.
Whether you enter class toting brand-new notebooks and pens
or a beloved and well-used laptop or tablet (or both), returning to
class signifies a momentous occasion as your advance toward your
ultimate career goal.
It helps, of course, that the weather is suddenly cooler, making
it easier to concentrate on your studies and not be distracted by a
perfect beach day tempting you to play hookey.
Which is not to say you can’t — grab a weekend away from your
studies at some of the nearby destinations outlined in our article in
this issue on great fall getaways.
Or, if you’d rather, binge on some recent movies. Our resident film
buff steers you to some of his favorites, and also discusses how the
movie industry needs to morph if it’s going to continue thriving as
technology provides both new opportunities and new challenges.
Or go back and rewatch some favorite TV series such as those
included in our article on shows that were recently cancelled by
Netflix, despite their popularity. Maybe watching them again will
help answer the nagging question of why the streaming giant would
deep-six some of its more celebrated offerings.
Not all our articles are leisure-oriented, of course. On a more
serious note, we delve into the array of apps that are available
to make it easier to get help if you’re struggling with anxiety or
depression, as well as into a variety of apps designed to help
students keep up with and master their course work.
And, for those who have political divisions in their families or
among their friends — you know who you are! — we have some
advice on how to cope with the schism, and still speak to each other.
That could definitely come in handy as the holidays draw close!
Write our editor at hklein@aspiredaily.com and let us know your
response to that or any of the other stories in the issue. We’re looking
forward to hearing from you.
