(That Aren’t Comic Book Films)
BY JAIME DEJESUS This has been quite a year for
films. It was again dominated
by superhero flicks, but
there were some other great
surprises. With the intention of
staying positive, here are some
awards distributed to films of 2017 that
aren’t comic book movies.

Best Horror Movie, Best Cast, TOP 4
Boy, was this a pleasant surprise. I had a good feeling coming into “It.” Although it had a pretty wellremembered
mini-series, one of Stephen King’s greatest books never had a proper theatrical release. And
not only is it the best horror movie in recent years, but once of the year’s best.
Sure, Pennywise delivered the thrills and some jump scares. What surprised me is that this is a horror
movie with truly touching moments. You may shed a tear or two during certain scenes. Does that happen
with popular thrillers like “Saw” or “Paranormal Activity”? Nope.
The cast features a bunch of young actors and they’re all superb. The chemistry between the “losers”
is fun and refreshing. The movie took some liberties with the book. It focuses just on the characters as
kids as a sequel is in the works. Also, it takes place in the ‘80s instead of the ‘50s. But it all works and best
captures King’s vision, even more so than “The Shining.”
