any other team Chad Green would be the primary
setup man if not for the Yankees loaded arms.
One of the Bombers’ best players coming off
a breakout season is shortstop Didi Gregorious,
who is unfortunately not going to play until the
summer. He underwent Tommy John surgery in
the off season and there is no set timetable for his
return yet. But as a pure left-handed batter and
the captain of the Yankees’ infi eld, Gregorious
will be greatly missed for the time being. It will
be interesting to see how veteran and former allstar
Troy Tulowitzki can fi ll Gregorious’ shoes after
missing all of last season with two heel surgeries.
At 34-years-old, he may not have much left in the
tank, but his signing seems like a reasonable risk
with a one-year minimum deal.
Despite some uncertainty due to injuries, the
Yankees are considered one of the betting favorites
in all of baseball, and some people may even be
betting that they break their own home run record
from last season. It’s certainly possible if every big
bat is swinging right. But the Yankees will clash again
with the defending-champion Red Sox in a battle for
the division crown, and anything less than a World
Series title for the most successful franchise in the
sport will be a disappointment for New Yorkers.
